247 - The First Lady Rosângela da Silva, more commonly known as Janja, has stated that she does not intend to conform to the traditional models of her role, instead aiming to articulate and debate public policies.

She also emphasized that President Lula gives her the autonomy to think "outside the box" and challenge the conventional expectations associated with her position.

"Since the campaign, I have said that I wanted to reshape this role of the first lady - the wife who hosts charity teas and visits philanthropic institutions, that is not my profile. (...) Mine is the role of an articulator, who talks about public policy. We can be in different spaces and speak to different audiences when necessary," Janja said in an interview with the BBC.

"[Lula] gives me total autonomy to do what I do. This line of hierarchy does not exist between me and my husband," she added. "It's about breaking out of the box that first ladies are always put into. It's about not having that box. She can do whatever she wants," concluded the first lady.
