Lula criticizes Trump's lack of environmental commitment and says democracy is at risk worldwide
Lula said he does not believe the U.S. president will come to Brazil for COP30
247 – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Friday (14) that he believes U.S. President Donald Trump will not come to Brazil in November this year to attend the United Nations climate summit, COP30, which will be held in Belém, Pará.
In a speech at an event in the state capital to announce federal government actions related to the summit, Lula also once again called on wealthy countries, especially the U.S., to fund environmental preservation. However, he said he does not believe Washington will do so, as, according to Lula, Trump has no commitment to the climate.
He directly criticized Trump: "The U.S. president did not sign the Kyoto Protocol and now has left the Paris Agreement, and he probably won't come here because they don't want commitment. The one who has commitment is Brazil."
The president also stated in his speech that "democracy is at risk all over the world. Lunatics take over, telling lies morning, afternoon, and night."
